As I document my “Nuts About DNA Afghan” journey, I’ve thought long and hard about the best way to do so.
I would hate to bore you with 141 individual posts, for one that’s a lot of catching up for me but more importantly I don’t want to scare you away or bore you to tears.
Over the last 6 months, our little space for sharing our passions and a tiny insight into our lives, has blossomed, my views have more than doubled even tripled. I really couldn’t be grateful for that.
In a world were I feel like I have no control, not even over my own health, it’s so nice to feel as I have a voice and some worth.
That all you lovely people come here to read my muddled words or see what I have created from the talent of other genius creators/desisners.
This space gives me a reason to fight that feeling of exhaustion which pulls tightly on my will to get out of bed and soldier on through a day.
I would hate to scare you away, so it’s important I get the balance right.

After lots of thought and debate, we thought it best to share 5 squares at a time and keep each post as simple and timeless as possible.
But each new square made from now on, I’ll post details as I make them, while they are fresh in my mind.
Please let me know if you think this is the best way or any other possibilities that you may think of. I truly would appreciate your input and advice.

Square 2 was the absolute stunning, “Tropical Delight” square by Susan A. Stevens.
I used the following colour placement –

Ssquare 4, is one of my all time favourites, “Crystals And Crochet“, one and only, Helen Shrimpton, “Spiro Star” square and my colour placement was –

Round 1 – Enstatite
Round 2 – Corundum Ruby
Round 3 – Corundum Ruby

Rounds 15 and 16, I made Double Crochet (DC) instead of Half Double Crochet (hdc) to adjust the size.

Round 17 was an extra additional round to bring all squares to the same stitch count of 44 HDC on each side, ready for joining and edging. (1hdc, chain 2, 1hdc in corner spaces)

Square 5, was “Denna” by Polly Plum. Don’t you just love her Granny Squares!
My colour placement was as follows.

Round 1 – Garnet

Round 6 – Corundum Ruby
Round 7 – Garnet

I used PrimroseJill’s, modifications to achvice size and stitch count, thanks Jill.

Round 12: start with the second 3DC of the shell in the corner, so the row joins run up the corner rather than the side. Remember to finish the last shell with 3DC and 2CH!

Round 13: Start with second 2DC in corner.

Round 14: Start with second 2DC in corner. If continuing colour, end with HDC join into first standing DC. The HDC acts like a CH2 and in leaves the working yarn at the start of the ‘chain’ so stitches can be worked into it.

Round 15: CH1, SC in HDC join, SC all round, with (SC, 2CH, SC) per corner. Finish with (SC, CH2) in last corner. Do NOT skip SCs on the sides. 144 sts.

Round 16: (2HDC, 2CH, 2HDC) per corner, (12HDC, 12SC, 12HDC) per side. 160 sts.

Round 17: (2HDC, 2CH, 2HDC) per corner, skip first stitch, 2HDC in second stitch, 38HDC along side. 176 sts.

I think that covers squares 2-5, but please pop back soon to find out, all about squares 6-10.
