“Fading Reflections”

In a world where time dances, twisting and turning,
Lies a heart once vibrant, now slowly discerning.
Alzheimer’s, a shadow that creeps through the day,
Whispers of memories slipping away.
An album of laughter, now pages turned grey,
Faces once familiar, just echoes at play.
Dementia weaves fabric of moments so dear,
Threads of connection unraveling here.
The sparkle of recognition, a flicker, then gone,
A name on the tip of the tongue, but the light’s faded on.
Conversations meander like rivers gone dry,
Words float like feathers, too fleeting to fly.
Eyes that once shimmered with stories to share,
Now search through the silence for ghosts in the air.
The past is a puzzle, its pieces misplaced,
A tapestry fraying, memories erased.
Yet in the silence, a warmth can be found,
A touch, a soft smile, love’s whispering sound.
Though Alzheimer’s may dim the bright colors of life,
Love remains through the heartache and strife.
So stand by their side, with compassion and grace,
For even in shadows, there’s beauty to trace.
In the quietest moments, where silence can bloom,
Love pierces the darkness, dispelling the gloom.

A heartfelt poem for all who suffer from Dementia and Alzheimer's, for those who lost their lives (like my Grandma did), and for the loved ones touched by these devastating illnesses.
With sincere tenderness and love,
yours Lainey.
