Goodbye April

Goodbye, sweet April, soft and mild,
The month that smiled like springtime's child.
Your rains have kissed the earth awake,
And coaxed the bloom from bud to break.

The lilacs lingered, fragrant, shy,
Beneath your ever-changing sky.
The clouds that wept, the sun that stayed,
Wove fleeting light through mist and shade.

You whispered songs of green and gold,
Of stories young and seasons old.
The brook began its silver flow,
While fields grew warm with what you sow.

But now you fade, your work complete,
Your days retreat on gentle feet.
You leave us where the meadows hum,
And hint of brighter days to come.

Farewell, dear April, soft and brief,
A tender sigh, a falling leaf.
We’ll hold your memory, fresh and true,
In petals kissed with morning dew.
