Back in September 2019, my twin Sister Hayley, asked me if I would make here a blanket. Nothing fancy, just something she could chuck over her, let her boys (dogs) walk all over, without having to worry it would get spoilt.

She has had her eye on a blanket I made a good few years ago for my hubby Mark. It’s one of those everyday blankets, the ones you can use without worrying it will get dirty, or spoilt by the fur babies, kids or Grandbabies . One that can be thrown in the washing machine and tumble dryer.

In truth I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of making blankets with cheaper wool. To me if you are going to make something, why not pay that little extra, taking it to the next level.
But for those everyday hard wearing blankets, the cheaper acrylic yarn is perfect. 👌🏻
Luck would have it, most of my yarn stash is made up of Acrylic yarn, so I knew I was good to go, as long as I had the colours she wanted.
Hayley decided that she wanted something very similar to Marks blanket and in the same colours.
I checked my yarn stash and didn’t quite have enough yarn in the chosen colours, so an order was made and I set to work making it.

The pattern we decided on was a, Corner to Corner (C2C) Lapghan, in colours, Orange, Black, Grey and White. I didn’t really use a pattern but followed along with Bella Coco’s YouTube tutorial, which can be found here.

I already knew the pattern off by heart, but gave myself a quick refresh before starting.

I used, Paintbox Simply Chunky, in colours Black, White, Granite Grey and Stormy Grey and Stylecraft Special Chunky, in colour, Spice, with my, 6mm Clover Soft Touch Hook. All brought from either Wool Warehouse or Lovecrafts.com.

I made repeats of 5 rows for each colour apart from the Spice, which I made 4 rows.

The colour order I used was –

I finished the blanket off with a border.
The first round was made by making a single crochet in every space with a chain 3 in between. In the corners I made a single crochet, chain 3, single crochet.
The next round was made up of 3 Double Crochets in the chain spaces and 5 double crochets in the corner chain space.
The last two rounds, I made a double crochet in each stitch and made three double crochets in the middle corner stitch.
With the last stitch made all that was left to do was weave in the last end, throw it in the washing machine and give it a block.

I used 3,090 yards of yarn, costing £45.75 all in and used the following skeins amounts.

Hayley was over the moon with her C2C and I was pretty content making it.

C2C is really easy when you get the hang of it, however I’ve heard/read that it does take a little while to get your head around the technique. Once you’re mastered it, blankets will fly off your hooks especially if you use an Aran or Chunky yarn.
It’s the perfect pattern for binge watching or car journeys or just to pick up every now and again to give you a break from more intensive pattern.
