Lets Go Turbo!

Since Warpspeeds last meet at the Greenlight Nationals, Mark Smith aka Smithy and Stuart Crane from Warpspeed Racing, have been very busy turning Smithys nitrous Pro-mod  bike into a turbo.
As you may know it has been a tough season running nitrous, mainly down to electrical issues, however running turbo has started out rather well. It was a race against time getting the bike ready in time for the Euro Finals Shootout, 10-12 September. The lads worked their socks off and with hours to spare the bike was ready and looking fine.

The team were on edge as Smithy and the warp speed team waited in the fire up lanes but Smithy did us proud and had a great first run.
There wasn’t a dry eye between the team when he ran a 7.28 seconds at 183.5 mph. Not bad going for his first ever turbo run and no damage to the motor.

Saturdays first run, the bike went immediately left. Smithy managed to straighten up and ran a 10.11 seconds at 147.60 mph.

Unfortunately the 2nd run was a no go as the fuel pump belt flew off during the burn out. With a little tinkering here and there, he was all set to go out for the next run.
Once again the belt came off during the burnout. The team were quick to act and sorted the issue out so Smithy could run.
The run didn’t go to plan and the bike was a little worse for wear at the end of his 8.01 seconds 125.46mph.
The clutch basket came apart from the main gear, luckily Stuart’s Warpspeed clutch system stopped any major damage and with the crew working into the night, the bike was back together and ready for eliminations.

Sunday started fantastically with a new turbo pb, of 7.15 seconds at 185.83mph and no breakages. Was a straight smooth run.
What a great way to start the day.

Mark’s second run was a bye run, so he just had to break the beam to get to the final.

With hearts in mouths, it was time for that all important race.
It was a pleasure to be up against our good friend and pro stock rival Bertrand Maurice.
After a shaky start, stalling after the burnout, the team kept their cool and restarted the bike, thank goodness they did as Smithy went on to win the meet, with a awesome run and two new personal bests of 6.97 seconds at 191 mph.

As you can imagine we went a little crazy on the line, tears of joy and pride were shed.
It’s been a long road getting to this point.

Huge condolences to Bertrand Maurice who unfortunately had to shut down after his burnout due to a dodgy noise from his engine. It’s such a shame as he well deserved to be in the final and is such a nice guy.

We could not be more proud of Smithy and the whole Warpspeed team and would like to thank you all for all you have done to get us to where we are now but extra Special thanks to Stuart Crane from Warpspeed Racing for all the hard work, late nights, support, encouragement but most of your friendship. We simply wouldn’t be able to do it without you.

We will be back at the pod in two weeks time for the National Finals. Hopefully see you all there.

Too-da-loo for now.
