We live in a word of documentation, knowledge at or fingertips, the government knowing every move we make, our mobile phones pinging our location to that huge data base that logs our location traveled, and while I’m not 100% convinced it’s a good thing, I understand the help it gives to find murders and crack crimes.That has to be a good thing.
Gone are the days, that everything was logged by hand and the only records of births, marriages and deaths, were written by the churches hand.

This weeks ancestor came from a time, much purer than ours, less documented and in its own little way more humble.
With very little documented information it’s extremely hard to trace our ancestry and to 100% confirm the information, that is shared on-line, at records offices or church’s. It’s almost a guessing game, an unanswerable game. So bare with me as I do my best to piece together the life of my 5th Great-Grandmother Anstice Long.

Anstice long was born about 1779, at Wellow, Hampshire, England, to Joseph Long and Sarah Long nee Light.
She was baptised on the 10 October 1779 at, St Margaret’s Church, East Wellow, Hampshire.

Anstice married William Roude on the 11th December 1799 at St Leonard’s Parish Church, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.
William Roude was the son of William Roude and Hahhan Roude nee Finch.

About 1801, Anstice gave birth to a daughter Mary Roude. Mary was christened on the 25 Jan 1801 at, Saint Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire.

About 1803, Anstice and William, had a second daughter Sarah Roude.
Sarah was Christened on the 13th March 1803, at St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

About 1804 Anstice and William had a third daughter, my 4th Great-Grandmother, Louisa Roude.
Louisa was christened on the, 2nd June 1805, at St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

Anstice and Willian had their first son, James Roude about 1808. I can not find a baptism or christening for him at present.

Anstice had another son, William Roude born about 1812 at Sherfield English. He was christened on the, 26 Jan 1812 at, St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

Anstice gave birth to a third daughter, Hannah Roude around 1814.
Hannah was christened on the 29 May 1814 at St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England. Hannah was my Husbands, 4th Great-Grandmother and my 6th Great Aunt.

Anstice 5th daughter, Eleanor Roude, was born around 1817 and christened on the 18th May 1817, at St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

Anstice and William, had a 3rd son, Henry Roude, around 1820. Henry was christened on the 18th June 1820 at, St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

Anstice and William had a 4th son, George Roud, about 1923, he was christened on the 19th October 1923, at St Leonard’s, Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.

Anstice lost her father in the month of May 1833.
Her family laid him to rest on the 16th May 1833 at Romsey, Hampshire, England.

Anstice’s, mother Sarah Long nee Light, died on the 16th December 1837, in Romsey Extra,Romsey Hampshire, England.
Sarah light is my 6th Great-Grandmother and my husbands 5th Great-Grandmother.
Her cause of death was, Old Age and Dropsy, at the age of 82.
Her brother in-law, Samuel Bungay, registered her death on the 19th December 1837.

On the 6th June 1841, the census was taken, which finds, Anstice, William, Henry and Hannah, living at Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.
William was working as a Broom Maker, as was Henry.
Their neighbors were, Charles William, his wife, Ann and their children, Charles, Stephen, Joseph, James and Helen also Daniel Hell, his wife Mary and their children, William, Ann, Mary, James, Henry and Elizabeth.

10 years later the next census was taken on the 30th March 1851.
It shows Anstice, William, Henry, Amelia, Harry and Sarah, residing at Sherfield English, Hampshire.
William is listed as a Pauper Family, Broom Maker. How very sad.
Henry was working as a Agricultural Labourer.
Their neighbors were Charles Long, his wife Ann Long nee Humby and their son David. They are related to my husbands side of our tree on, Robert Mcintyre Wallce’s line. Also Moses Long and his wife Elizabeth Long nee Petty. Moses and Elizabeth later become the father and mother in-law of Anstice’s daughter, Hannah.

Just a short while later, not even a year has passed and Anstice found herself in bad health, age is catching up with her even though she is still young in today’s day and age.
Anstice life comes to an end when Anasarca, causes her death on the 16th June 1852, at Sherfield English, Hampshire, England.
Her husband, William Roud, registered her death on the 17th June 1852. He was present at her death and signed with an X.

Its funny to think that Anstice’s sister, Hannah, married into my husbands direct line. Hannah was my husband 4th great grandmother. Our family entwined over and over again. It really does show us, what a small world we live in and maybe there is some truth in the saying, “We are all related one way or another.”

The funny thing is, we would have never known that our ancestors paths crossed so closely if it was for the death of my wonderful Dad and the need I felt to know as much as I could about his family.

Life really is a huge mystery, with millions of lives bringing us to where we are now and the reason why I sit week in, week out writing about these amazing people who gave me life, who gave my children life and hopefully will in time give their children life.
