Sometimes you are lucky enough to stumble upon a photo of a blanket that stops you in your tracks.
That’s actually what happened when I saw Abi McIntyre’s “Berber Afghan.”
It’s beyond striking and I’m dying to get my hook sunk into it.
I just have to finish a baby blanket and I’ll be on it. 😁

The Berber Afghan, is created using overlay mosaic technique. Mosaic crochet does not require you to turn your work. You start each row from the right-hand side on every row, work your way across using either single crochet and double crochet stitches, always starting and finishing off with a single crochet in both loops and cut your yarn.
Remember to leave enough yarn for either a double border, a fringe or to weave in the ends.
I think that’s why I love this technique so much, it’s so very simple but extremely striking.

Abi’s pattern is super clear and easy to follow, it’s going to be a dream to make. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to start it.

I recently purchased a different mosaic crochet pattern and I’m so disappointed, I’ve never seen such a hard pattern to read, I can’t for the life of me even begin to understand it, let alone start to crochet it.
It cost a lot more than other patterns I’ve purchased which I’m always happy to pay for, as I know how much work goes into the pattern designing, writing, testing etc but when a paid pattern is poorly written or impossible to understand, it’s a little upsetting and disappointing. 

Trust me, You Don’t have to worry about The Berber Afghan, being that way, because it’s anything butt. It I s up there with the best of them.
It’s extremely clear, beautiful presented and very easy to understand and follow.
It’s worth every penny and more. It’s cheap as chips at only £7.00.

The pattern comes in PDF format and has 23 easy to read charts, with corresponding written instructions (using US terms).

🧶Yarn – You can use any yarn and corresponding hook you like for this pattern.
Abi used Stylecraft Special Aran for her Berber Afghan. 
She used approximately 17 skeins for the main body of the blanket. 
9 Skeins of Colour A and 8 Skeins of Colour B. 
This created a blanket approx 165cm x 105cm

Abi suggests adding another 2 – 3 skeins for the border – depending on what you decide to do with the border, be it a double border, a fringe or anything else you fancy. The world is your oyster.

You can create any size blanket you want, as it’s a simple repeating pattern. You can chop and change the individual patterns around, you can take some out or repeat some. You can be as creative as you like! You don’t even need to make a blanket, the options are endless.
