Crochet Crush – June/July 2020 – Santa Cruz.

After making the “Havana Cal” by Tina Thórudóttir Thorvaldsdóttir, mosaic crochet has become my favourite type of crochet, followed closely by Overlay Crochet.
So when I saw Moira from Daisyknots Creative Craft, new mosaic design, my heart sang and I just had to purchase the pattern.

Moira’s new blanket is called, “Santa Cruz.”

It was designed and made as a gift to her Son and Daughter In-law and is named after the Street they live on, Santa Cruz Avenue.

The Santa Cruz Afghan, is worked in Overlay Mosaic Crochet and the pattern is mainly in chart form.
It is written in UK terms, but please don’t panic if you work in US term as I do, it’s very easy to convert to US terms and as mosaic crochet is made with only two stitch, Single crochet and double crochet it’s very easy to convert yourself.
If you’re already a wizz at mosaic crochet you won’t really have to think about it especially as the pattern is mainly in chart form.

The pattern is written for Aran/worsted weight yarn and a 5mm hook but of course you can use whatever yarn you wish and the right hook to match. Remember that this will change the dimensions but I’m sure you can always make a longer or shorter stating chain and adjust your repeats.

There are lots of different colour possibilities. Either, two tone, two different yarn cakes or one main colour and as mainly colours as you wish for your contrasting colour.
This is why I love mosaic crochet, you can play around with colour until your heart’s content.

Santa Cruz has jumped to the top of my to make list for when my shoulder injury (too much crochet) heals until then I will be playing around with my yarn pegs, to hopefully come up with a striking colour combination.
Fingers crossed a few days maybe weeks rest will do the trick and I can finish up my wips and start my Santa Cruz lapghan.
